PURPOSE: A semiconductor memory device and an operating method thereof are provided to reduce an amount of cache memories used in a controller by freely transmitting data between planes. CONSTITUTION: A first plane(110) and a second plane(115) include a plurality of memory blocks. A data transmitting circuit(170) transmits the first data from the first plane to the second plane in a copy back operation and transmits the second data from the second plane to the first plane. The data transmitting circuit transmits the first data or the second data to an input and output circuit in a read operation.
