<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internal combustion engine having further smaller required space. <P>SOLUTION: The internal combustion engine (1; 1a) includes housings (10a; 10b) having two end faces (11, 12) forming a connection face (11) and a connection opposite face (12) of the internal combustion engine and two longitudinal faces (13, 14) demarcating the housings with a side face and connecting both end faces with each other, accordingly specifying width dimensions of the housings; and a plurality of driving components (20) connected to the housings and at least partially realizing at least one medium flow for driving the internal combustion engine. The internal combustion engine has a smaller required space.
