Provided are a dyeing method for a substance containing an amine, an amino acid or a peptide, a dyeing method for a substance not containing an amine, an amino acid or a peptide, a blue-dye production method, a dyeing kit, and a blue-dye production kit. The invention comprises: (A) a step in which the substance is brought into contact with genipin in the presence of a reducing agent under alkaline conditions; and (B) a step in which an oxidising agent is added to the product of the contact of step (A). The dyeing method and kit of the present invention allow blue dyeing quickly, and also allow perming in addition to dyeing. Also, the production method and kit of the present invention allow a blue dye to be produced quickly.
