<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To always align paper at a minimum alignment distance without depending on the conveying displacement of paper. <P>SOLUTION: This paper aligning device 1 includes a paper conveying means 11 having a conveying roller pair 11a for gripping and conveying the paper P in the conveying direction X, and an aligning means 14 that consists of a pair of alignment plates, reciprocates in the paper width direction Y, receives, at a paper receiving position, the paper P conveyed from the paper conveying means 11, abuts on a side edge of the paper P, and performs alignment of the width direction.
