<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an absolute encoder that can achieve a high resolution without increasing the number of tracks and reduce the influence of individual differences among sensors. <P>SOLUTION: An absolute encoder has an encoder unit comprising a sensor aggregate including a plurality of sensors, which can read signal patterns and are so arrayed as to differ from one another in position, and a base substance including the signal pattern, and an arithmetic unit that calculates the absolute positions of the sensor aggregate and of the base substance from the output of the sensor aggregate. When the sensor aggregate and the base substance shift relative to each other, the signal pattern shifts in the detection range of the plurality of sensors. This shifting of the signal pattern in the detection range of the plurality of sensors serves to eliminate the need to increase the number of tracks and to enhance the resolution of the absolute encoder. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
