<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an overcurrent detecting element that can effect an accurate overcurrent interruption. <P>SOLUTION: An overcurrent detecting element 20 includes: a first metallic plate part 30 connected in series with a conductive path 11; a second metallic plate part 31 disposed adjacently to the first plate part 30; and a thermosensitive part 24 having a first electrode 36 connected to the first plate part 30 and a second electrode 37 connected to the second plate part 31. The second plate part 31 has one corner portion 32, and the corner portion 32 is opposed to a side edge of the first plate part 30 via a gap portion 33 set to a predetermined interval. Two of the side edges of the second plate part 31 which form the corner portion 32 and the side edge of the first plate part 30 opposing the corner portion 32 form two substantially V-shaped narrow portions narrowing toward the gap portion 33 on both sides of the gap portion 33.
