The purpose of the present invention is to provide a novel chemical having an excellent fungicidal activity. The compound to be used as the chemical according to the present invention is an ethynylphenylamidine compound represented by general formula (1) or a salt thereof. In general formula (1): R1 and R2 represent each a hydrogen atom or a C1-12 alkyl group, or R1 and R2 may be bonded to each other to form a C1-7 alkylene group; R3 represents a hydrogen atom or a C1-4 alkylthio group; R4, R5, R6 and R7 represent each a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, etc.; and R8 represents a hydrogen atom, a C1-20 alkyl group, a C3-8 cycloalkyl group, a C1-4 haloalkyl group, a phenyl group, a heterocyclic group or a -(CH2)n-Si(R9)(R10)(R11) group [wherein R9, R10 and R11 represent each a C1-6 alkyl group; and n represents an integer of 0 or 1].
