PURPOSE: A backlight and a liquid crystal display device with a light emitting device are provided to arrange LEDs on a groove of a lower surface of a light guide plate and supply light to a liquid crystal panel through a light emitting plate, thereby maximizing light efficiency of LEDs. CONSTITUTION: A plurality of grooves are extended from one side to the other side of a light guide plate(35). The light guide plate guides incident light. LEDs(34) are arranged on each groove. The LEDs supply light to the light guide plate through light incident surfaces of the grooves. A reflecting layer(56) reflects incident light into the light guide plate. A light control layer is formed on a groove edge of the light guide plate. The light control layer adjusts a light transmitting rate.
