<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel pretreatment method of biomass remarkably heightening the saccharification reaction promoting effect after the pretreatment of woody biomass, and allowing sufficient effective use of the woody biomass like lignocellulose-based biomass. <P>SOLUTION: The pretreatment method of biomass has steps of: dipping the woody biomass in an ionic liquid; pretreating the woody biomass dipped in the ionic liquid with the ultrasonic irradiation; and removing the ionic liquid from the woody biomass after the pretreatment.
