<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: phosphorus-substituted anti-viral inhibitory compounds; compositions containing such compounds; therapeutic methods that include the administration of such compounds; and processes and intermediates useful for preparing such compounds. <P>SOLUTION: The present invention relates generally to the accumulation or retention of therapeutic compounds inside cells. The invention is more particularly related to attaining high concentrations of phosphonate molecules in liver cells.
