<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a wear assembly to secure a wear member to a drilling unit in order to gain high stability, strength, durability, penetration performance, safety and easiness of replacement. <P>SOLUTION: A wear member and a base 15 each include an upper stabilizing surface 42 and a lower stabilizing surface that are offset at overlapping depths to reduce the overall depth of an assembly while maintaining high strength and a stable coupling. A nose and a socket each includes a generally triangular-shaped front stabilizing end to provide a highly stable front connection between the nose and the wear member for both vertical and lateral loading. A lock 17 is movable between hold and release positions to accommodate replacing of the wear member when needed, and is secured to the wear member for shipping and storage purposes. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
