<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain excellent image display quality by stably generating a maintenance discharge by suppressing occurrence of a wrong discharge when displaying an image on a plasma display panel. <P>SOLUTION: A driving method for a plasma display panel that applies a decreasing inclined voltage to a scanning electrode and a positive voltage to a maintenance electrode in an initialization period, and also applies scanning pulses to the scanning electrode and write pulses to a data electrode in a write period includes: dividing an image display region of the plasma display panel into a plurality of regions and detecting the rate of the number of discharge cells to be lit in each of the regions to the number of discharge cells as a partial lighting rate of the area for each of subfields; detecting maximum values of the partial lighting rates by the subfields; and changing the levels of the positive voltage applied to the maintenance electrode in the initialization period and write period according to the maximum values of the partial lighting rates. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
