[Problem] To provide: a neutron scintillator displaying high luminescence with regard to neutrons and exerting excellent detection efficiency and n/? discrimination ability; and a metal fluoride crystal suitable for said neutron scintillator. [Solution] A metal fluoride crystal in which Eu and at least one alkali metal element selected from among Na, K, Rb and Cs are included in a mother crystal of a metal fluoride crystal represented by chemical formula LiM1M2F6 (in the formula, M1 represents at least one alkaline-earth metal element selected from among Mg, Ca, Sr and Ba, and M2 represents at least one metal element selected from among Al, Ga and Sc) such as lithium calcium aluminum fluoride, lithium strontium aluminum fluoride, and lithium magnesium aluminum fluoride. A light-emitting element such as a neutron scintillator comprising the aforementioned crystal.
