In one embodiment, a method for performing magnetic resonance image reconstruction includes defining the image reconstruction problem as a constrained minimization problem that is a function of the reconstructed image u, determining an augmented Lagrangian that corresponds to the constrained minimization problem, splitting the variables of the augmented Lagrangian to generate a sub-problem for u, iteratively determining the variables until convergence on a solution to the constrained minimization problem is reached, wherein a is determined using least squares with Barzilai-Borwein step size selection to achieve faster convergence, and generating a reconstructed magnetic resonance image once convergence is reached. |
