A metal roadway is coated with a composition comprising bitumen and rubber, having scattered material impressed therein. The coating material may include, by weight, 15-85% bituminous binder; 35-10% powdered, grated or latex rubber; and 50-5% synthetic resin hardening mixture, e.g. epoxy resin with amine hardener, or polyurethane with isocyanate hardener; and asbestos, e.g. 12% may also be included. The coating materal may be produced by warming or boiling together some or all of the ingredients. A solvent may be added to achieve cold working. The coating material may be applied by hand, spraying or flame-spraying. The scattered material may comprise corundum of grain size up to 3 mm., and is preferably applied hot. An additional surface layer of bituminous emulsion or sludge may be provided. |
