A process for dyeing polymeric and copolymeric acrylonitrile fibrous material is characterised by impregnating the material with an aqueous thickened, acid solution of basic dyestuffs, at temperatures below the drawing temperature of these dyestuffs, which solution contains water soluble salts of saturated aliphatic carboxylic acids having 8 to 14 carbon atoms and surface active polyglycol ethers consisting of ethylene oxide condensation products, a) of alkyl phenols containing one or more alkyd substituents which together contain at least 8 C. atoms; b) of primary or secondary mono- or poly basic aliphatic and cyclo aliphatic amines containing at least one alkyl or alkenyl radical having at least 8 C. atoms or of alkanolamines containing alkyl or aralkyl radicals having at least 8 C. atoms in the alkyl radical and; c) of alkanolamides, amino alkyl amides amino alkyl esters of aliphatic preferably saturated fatty acids with at least 8 C. atoms and ethyl arcloxy fatty acids having at least 8 C. atoms in the alkyl radical or mixtures of two or more of the condensation product named under (a) to (c), whereby in all of these ethylene oxide condensation products some of the ethyleneoxy groups can be C-alkyl and/or C-phenyl substituted, and a sufficient amount of a water soluble organic acid to make the pH of the preparation 2 to 4.5 and which preparation can contain other auxiliaries particularly amides of saturated, aliphatic mono-carboxylic acids having 8 to 14 carbon atoms with primary or secondary alkanol amines, and submitting the treated goods to the effect of moist heat. Polyglycol ethers containing basic nitrogen e.g. of di-and poly amines substituted by alkyl or acyl radicals having at least 8 carbon atoms may be used. As auxiliaries amides of saturated aliphatic mono carboxylic acids having 8 to 14 C. atoms with primary or secondary alkanolamines may be employed. |
