Each of some at least of the suction boxes 9 in the Fourdrinier section of a paper-making, board-making, or pulp-drying machine has a plurality of generally downwardly directed tubes 11 uniformly arranged along the length of the box transversely to the running direction of the wire and extending into a water trough 27 between main beams 23 thereby to constitute a common water seal for the tubes. The trough has an adjustable side outlet 29 and may extend the length of the Fourdrinier section to collect water from the table rolls and/or drainage bars. Each box has a suction pipe 31 and a pipe 33 connected to an adjustable air supply. |
