<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a molten salt battery having large capacity and high energy density. <P>SOLUTION: A plurality (6 in the diagram) of rectangular flat-shaped anodes 21, 21, .. 21, and a plurality (5 in the diagram) of rectangular flat-shaped cathodes 41, 41, .. 41 which are accommodated separately in bag-shaped separators 31, 31, .. 31 are juxtaposed in a lateral direction while being alternately opposed to each other along a vertical direction. The anodes 21, 21, .. 21 have the lower ends of rectangular-shaped tabs 22, 22, .. 22 for retrieving current joined to the upper ends thereof on a side close to a side wall 1A on one side of a container body 1. The upper ends of the rectangular-shaped tabs 22, 22, .. 22 are joined to the underside of a rectangular flat-shaped tab lead 23. The cathodes 41, 41, .. 41 have the lower ends of rectangular-shaped tabs 42, 42, .. 42 for retrieving current joined to the upper ends thereof on a side close to a side wall 1B on the other side of the container body 1.
