The ink printer has a print head (12) that is provided with several ink discharge openings. An ink supply system has a pressurized ink container (30) that is connected with print head via a supply line. A control unit (41) is provided for performing pulse-wise flushing of ink discharge openings of the print head. The control unit is connected with respect to print head via solenoid valve (43). An independent claim is included for method for purging ink exit orifices of ink print head.
