<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sliding mechanism that shows outstanding low friction characteristics, thereby improving its mileage better. <P>SOLUTION: The sliding mechanism is configured by making a lubricant composition intervene between sliding surfaces, at least the one of which includes a hard carbon thin layer. The lubricant composition comprises: a polymeric compound (a first dispersant) that contains a first polar group and a second polar group; and a succinimide-based dispersant (a second dispersant). The first polar group contains a polymer skeleton configured by repeated monomers that contain hydrocarbon chain having at least one electronegative site.
