The module i.e. thin layer solar module (10), has a transparent support substrate (12) supporting photovoltaic cells (20). The photovoltaic cells are covered on the support substrate by a side of a metallic covering layer (28) that is designed as a metal foil (32). The covering layer is made of pure aluminum or aluminum alloy from a group of chromium-nickel steel 14301. A material layer (36) is arranged between the support substrate and the covering layer to connect the covering layer with the support substrate. The material layer is formed of multiple layers of unitary material (38). The material layer is made of thermoplastic i.e. polyvinyl butyral, cross-linked i.e. ethylene vinyl acetate, or resin e.g. epoxy resin or polyurethane resin. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a photovoltaic module.
