The method involves connecting a traction battery i.e. lithium ion battery, to a stationary charging device, where the stationary charging device charges the traction battery. A priming charge is enabled up to a predetermined state of charge of the battery after connecting the battery to the charging device. The battery is formed in lithium ion technology. The predetermined state of charge of the priming charge is selected such that the predetermined state of charge is optimal with respect to aging of the battery.
