The method involves coding data to be transmitted by a coding unit (13) of a technical device (10) by using one-dimensional or two-dimensional barcode, and displaying the coded data on a display (14) of the technical device. The displayed coded data is encoded from the display by a mobile encoding device. The encoded data is transmitted by the encoding device, and the encoded data is received by a receiver, where the encoded data is decoded by the receiver. The encoding device is provided with a mobile phone, personal digital assistance and a digital camera. An independent claim is also included for a technical device comprising a decoding unit.
