The system has a blood pump, an oxygenator and a reservoir for priming solution or blood that is circulated by the operation of a closable inlet and a valve. A venous bubble trap (20) is provided at an inlet (24) of a compensation reservoir (21) that is equipped with a valve-controlled outlet (26). The valve-controlled outlet is in communication with a large lumen inlet (27) of the venous bubble trap. A locking element (29) is arranged at a connecting channel (28) between the compensation reservoir and the upper region (30) of venous bubble trap.
