<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a semiconductor switch and a charging circuit having a built-in protection circuit. <P>SOLUTION: According to an embodiment, the semiconductor switch provided includes a switch element, a drive circuit, a protection circuit and a control circuit. The switch element is connected between a power line and an output line. The drive circuit drives on or off the switch element in response to an input signal. The protection circuit has a clamp mode for limiting a current to the switch element to an upper limit value when an overcurrent to the switch element is detected, and a switching mode for switching on and off the switch element alternately. The control circuit controls the protection circuit into the clamp mode when the switch element is switched on, and controls the protection circuit into the switching mode when a short circuit of the output line is detected a prescribed time after the on-switching of the switch element or when a voltage to the output line reaches a prescribed value with no short circuit of the output line detected. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
