<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide lubricant that improves transfer efficiency with the use of toner having finer and more spherical particles, as well as a process cartridge and an image forming apparatus using the lubricant. <P>SOLUTION: Lubricant is applied to the surface of a latent image carrier (photoreceptor 107) provided to an image forming apparatus using a lubricant applying device 120. The lubricant is constituted of an alkyl ketene dimer alone, or includes a mixture of an alkyl ketene dimer and a metal stearate.
