An alternator for a vehicle includes: a Lundell rotor (112) where a plurality of claw magnetic poles (112c) for an N pole and a plurality of claw magnetic poles (112c) for an S pole are alternately provided in the rotation direction through a space between the claw magnetic poles; and a stator having a laminated iron core which is placed opposite to the Lundell rotor (112) at an outer periphery thereof with a rotation space therebetween and around which an armature coil is wound. With respect to a pair of claw magnetic poles (112c) that are adjacent to each other, side surfaces of the claw magnetic poles that face each other through the space between the claw magnetic poles are provided in parallel to each other at least in a prescribed region from a claw magnetic pole tip, which is one end in the axis direction of the claw magnetic poles (112c), to the other end in the axis direction. On the other end in the axis direction, a width size in the circumferential direction in an inner periphery side of the claw magnetic pole (112c) is set to be more than a width size in the circumferential direction in an outer periphery side.
