The field device (1) has an input circuit (5) connected between an input and an electronic unit (3) for limiting an electrical supply voltage of the electronic unit. The input circuit has a storage unit e.g. lithium battery, for electric energy and a power management circuit (23) including a power requirement acquisition unit for determining and receiving a required power level. The power management circuit loads an electrical energy amount of the power supply into an electrical storage unit, where the power supply is connected to the input circuit and the amount exceeds energy-target level. An independent claim is also included for a method for powering a field device.
