PURPOSE: A gesture recognition method and an apparatus thereof are provided to perform gesture recognition of a touch screen user interface and to supply instant control of a selected function. CONSTITUTION: A touch screen device(200) enters a first mode. A signal responding to a touch event about a user interface is supplied in the first mode. The touch screen determines whether the touch event is matched with the touch gesture. If so, the touch screen device is switched from the first mode into a second mode.
