A system of colour co-ordinated construction elements for the rapid identification and matching of two or more of a driving tool, fastener and fixing component. The driving tool may be a drill bit 10, screwdriver, a screw bit, hexagonal socket head or similar, the fastener may be a screw 16, bolt, dowel or any comparable fastener and the fixing component may be a wall plug 12, dry wall anchor, nut, bolt, dowel or the like. The driving tool fastener and fixing component each has a surface upon which is disposed a coloured material 14; operably matched driving tools, fasteners and fixing components sharing a colour to ensure correct engagement, sizing and/or load rating in use. Where the driving tool is a drill bit, the coloured region may additionally indicate an optimum drilling depth for the fixing component used. The position of the colour marking of a fastener may indicate the minimum engagement required to achieve rated strength. A method for effecting the system and a retail pack of colour coded construction elements is also disclosed.
