The invention comprises water-soluble complex metal compounds of monoazo dyestuffs of the general formulae <FORM:1075074/C4-C5/1> or <FORM:1075074/C4-C5/2> wherein R represents the radical of resorcinol or a derivative thereof capable of coupling, Z represents Cl, Br, a sulphuric ester, aryloxy, dialkylamino, trialkylammonium or pyridinium group capable of being split off by an alkaline agent, X, standing in o-position to the azo group, represents a hydrogen atom or a grouping known to be capable of forming a metal complex, D represents a radical of the benzene or naphthalene series and at least one of the radicals R and D contains at least one group imparting solubility in water. They may be prepared by diazotizing 1 mol. of a primary aromatic amine of the general formulae <FORM:1075074/C4-C5/3> <FORM:1075074/C4-C5/4> or <FORM:1075074/C4-C5/5> and coupling with 1 mol. of resorcinol or a derivative thereof capable of coupling, and if a diazo component of Formula (5) is used, esterifying the OH group of the b -hydroxyethyl-sulphone group, and metallizing the dyestuffs obtained by means of a metal-yielding agent, if desired in the presence of an oxidizing agent. Specified metal-yielding agents are Co, Cr, Cu and Ni salts such as cobalt sulphate, chromium alum, copper-sulphate, copper acetate or nickel sulphate, and complex-bound metal-yielding agents such as complex chromium or cobalt compounds of aliphatic hydroxy-carbocylic acids, or of dicarboxylic acids, and complex chromium compounds of aromatic ortho-hydroxy carboxylic acids. The complex metal dyes are useful for dyeing and printing various fibrous materials, especially natural or regenerated cellulosic materials, in the presence of acid-binding agents. Examples are given for the production of the dyes. |
