<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a secondary transfer device cleaning device for removing soiling toner on the surface of a secondary transfer device in an image forming apparatus where a toner image formed on an image carrier is transferred to an intermediate transfer body and further transferred to a recording medium by the secondary transfer device. <P>SOLUTION: Transfer bias is applied to a secondary transfer roller 18 from a transfer bias applying device 31b under the control of a transfer bias application controller 31a, and a toner image on an intermediate transfer belt 17 is transferred to the recording medium P passing between the intermediate transfer belt 17 and the secondary transfer roller 18. The cleaning member 33 of the secondary transfer device cleaning device 30 scrapes off the soiling toner 38 on the surface of the secondary transfer roller to take it into foaming cells constituting the cleaning member 33. By applying cleaning bias to the foaming cells, the soiling toner 38 inside the foaming cells is discharged to the surface of the secondary transfer roller 18, further discharged onto the intermediate transfer belt 17, and finally collected by an intermediate transfer belt cleaning device. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
