The method involves detecting side views of a drug packaging as an image or data set by an optical reading device e.g. camera or scanner. The image or data set is analyzed using data processing apparatus on the basis of a multitude of different recognition methods, where the data processing apparatus is formed in such a manner that the processing apparatus recognizes the packaging. The reading device is controlled in such a way that the side view of the packaging is detected to bear the expiration date, and bar code of the packaging is sensed by the reading device and processing apparatus. An independent claim is also included for a system for detecting and recognition non-uniform expiration data applied on a drug packaging by a different printing and embossing techniques, comprising an optical reading device. |
