1,065,155. Moulding helical sliding-clasp fasteners. YOSHIDA KOGYO KABUSHIKI KAISHA. Aug. 20, 1964 [Nov. 13, 1963; Nov. 20, 1963], No. 34077/64. Heading B5A. A machine for making a substantially oval, generally helical stringer for a sliding-clasp fastener from a filament W of resinous thermoplastics material, comprises a rod 11 which extends between screws 13, 14 of substantially the same pitch, a relatively short rod 12, and a vertically reciprocable clamp 8 which holds both rods. The clamp 8 derives its motion from a shaft (7), Fig. 3 (not shown), and the filament (W) is led from a bobbin (4) fixed to a rotatable table (1) and is initially coiled around rods 11, 12, Figs. 4, 5 adjacent the nose of clamp 8 which is stepped as at 9. The screws 13, 14 are displaced relative to one another, as shown, so that on raising clamp 8 the coiled filament C is initially fed upwardly by screw 13 only. The left-hand side of the coil is delayed on encountering screw 14, until picked up by thread end 17, the coil thereby assuming the configuration shown between the screws. The function of rod 12 is to allow a loop to be formed of sufficient diameter to permit this configuration without damage to the filament. If the crests 16, 17 of screws 13, 14 are in horizontal alignment as shown, the legs (47), (48), Figs. 1a lb (not shown), of each turn of the coil lie in the same plane, but the vertical positions of the screws may be adjusted by movement of blocks (28), (29), Fig. 2 (not shown), which hold upper, non-threaded, extensions of the screws. Heaters (26), (27), Fig. 3 (not shown), soften filament (W) to facilitate deformation and a punch (33) is provided to form interengageable heads (50), Fig. 1a (not shown), on each turn of the coil. The latter is cooled by air from a nozzle (44), Fig. 2 (not shown), and in the event of fouling, the filament (W) may be cut by a knife (43). |
