<p>A water-proofing composition for coating and impregnation comprises (a) an alkaline earth salt of a fatty, resinic, sulphonic or naphthenic acid, (b) a drying oil, (c) a drying agent, (d) amianthus or rockwool, glass or metal fibre, (e) a pulverulent filler, and (f) a wetting agent. The alkaline earth salt may be obtained from an acid tar or sludge formed in the refining or reclaiming of mineral oil with sulphuric acid; or by the reaction in situ of tall oil and calcium hydroxide or carbonate. The drying oil may be linseed oil or an aromatic substance obtained by solvent extraction of mineral oil. The drying agent may be a mixture of lead, manganese and cobalt naphthenate. The pulverulent filler may be calcium carbonate or aluminium powder coated with petrolatum or petroleum or paraffin wax. The wetting agent may be polyethylene glycol. An alginate, dextrin, gum, or volatile solvent may also be present.
