Article propelling apparatus comprises a guideway 11, Fig. 1, and means for propelling articles such as pallets 10 along the guideway, which means comprises a rotary member 14 mounted for rotation about a horizontal axis, a plurality of pawls 13 pivotally mounted on the member 14, each of the pawls having means to engage an article and there being interengageable guide means on the pawls and the guideway to guide each pawl at least while propelling an article, which guide means cause each pawl to pivot to engage and drive the article, the article engaging means of each pawl comprising an article engaging member 13b attached to the main body 13a of the pawl and arranged to be movable resiliently relative to the main body. The pawls are in pairs mounted for rotation about axes 19, and the member 13b of each pawl is pivotally mounted at 20 on the main body 13a which carries a screw 21 for abutment with a tail 23 of the member 13b, the member 13b being biased towards abutment by a tension spring 26 to allow a nosepiece 27 to ride over a wrongly positioned pallet. The main body 13a has an adjustable screw 29 for engagement with an abutment 31 to provide lifting action to disengage the nosepiece from the pallets. Each pair of pawls is interconnected by a shaft (35), Fig. 2 (not shown), carrying wheels which co-operate with guides 42, 43 and 38, 39. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown) the guides 42, 43 are dispensed with and the screw 29 and abutment 31 are replaced by a spring biasing the pawl out of engagement with the pallets. |
