1,045,554. Helicopters. BELL AEROSPACE CORPORATION. Feb. 26, 1964 [Feb. 26, 1963], No. 7937/64. Heading B7W. A rotary wing aircraft has an aerodynamically profiled cuff surrounding the root end of each rotor blade and means for varying the pitch of the cuff in relation to the pitch change of the rotor blade. Each rotor blade 14 (Fig. 1, not shown), is attached by a root fitting 22 and hinge 20 to a hub fitting 18 mounted on the rotor shaft. A root fairing 16 (Fig. 2, not shown), is secured to root fitting 22 by a pivot 42 between lugs 34, 40, and connected by a pivoted link 30 to hub fitting 18, whereby upon pitch change movement of the blade the fairing also has its pitch altered, but by a different amount. Linkages are described associated with a swashplate whereby the pitch of the cuff may be altered in unison with the collective and/or cyclic pitch change of the rotor blade. |
