Edge-notched cards are stored radially in a drum 33 which is rotated past a selector station 34 having selector bars actuated by solenoids, the selector bars co-operating with the notched edges of the cards to allow a magnet to withdraw only the desired card by attraction of a magnetic strip adjacent the notched edge, and a detector 35 is actuated by a withdrawn card to stop the motor driving drum 33. A pair of gripping elements is reciprocated by cams to centre the desired card in the delivery station and to separate the adjacent cards to facilitate withdrawal and re-insertion of the selected card. The drum may have dividers 150 forming a plurality of individually removable magazines. The magnet pole pieces may be spaced from drum 33 by an amount which varies in the direction of rotation.
