PURPOSE: A portable terminal and operation method thereof are provided to enable a user to effectively confirm on or off state by using an operation key area displayed on a touch screen. CONSTITUTION: An output unit(150) outputs one or more images, sound, vibration in the turn on state of a three dimensional motion recognition function. The output unit displays one or more touch areas on a touch screen. A sensing unit(140) senses a three dimensional motion a first touch motion for a specific part of a portable terminal. A control unit(180) turns on or off the three dimensional recognition function by responding to the first touch motion. The control unit executes a specific function by responding to the three dimensional motion and the second touch motion.
