329,668. Maley, A. W., and Taunton, E. M. Feb. 21, 1929. Electric and magnetic; fluid-pressure.-In an electrically-propelled rail vehicle having regenerative or rheostatic braking and an air wheel brake controlled by a separate handle, but no air track brake, the controller handle when brought to electrical braking notches operates a valve by which the wheel brake cylinder is connected to exhaust. In one modification an exhaust valve in parallel with the air brake exhaust valve is opened by a cam on the controller spindle when this is moved to the electrical braking notches. A restriction in the air supply prevents serious loss of pressure if the air brake handle is held on. In a further modification arranged to prevent this loss of pressure an additional exhaust valve is arranged in parallel and an additional inlet valve in series with the corresponding air brake valves and these additional valves are operated by the controller spindle. In a further modification the controller spindle operates valves 9, 10 to admit or exhaust air to or from a pneumatically operated valve 11 which is adapted to connect the brake cylinder 3 either to the train pipe 13 or to the exhaust 14. Specification 294,593 is referred to. |
