PURPOSE: A liquid crystal display device and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to obtain uniformity in alignment by reducing rubbing defects due to a step of an alignment film. CONSTITUTION: A pixel electrode(138) and a common electrode(140) are separated in a pixel area. The pixel electrode and the common electrode are alternatively arranged. An alignment film(142) is provided to the pixel electrode and the common electrode. The alignment film includes upper surfaces on the pixel electrode and the common electrode, between the pixel electrode and the common electrode, and in an area adjacent to the pixel electrode.
