PURPOSE: A rapid cooling method and apparatus for hot rolled steel sheets are provided to minimize the amount of coolant used for cooling the exterior of products and reduce the time for cooling hot rolled steel sheets. CONSTITUTION: A rapid cooling method for hot rolled steel sheets comprises the steps of: uncoiling and transferring a hot rolled steel sheet, which is heated by rolling, from a first winding coil(S100), spraying coolant to cool the transferred hot rolled steel sheet(S200), removing the residue from the cooled hot rolled steel sheet using an air sprayer(S300), temper-rolling the hot rolled steel sheet(S400), and re-coiling the temper-rolled hot rolled steel sheet in a second winding coil(S500).
