PURPOSE: A method for manufacturing magnesium nitride nanopowder based on thermal plasma and the magnesium nitride nanopowder manufactured by the same are provided to improve operational efficiency by easily vaporizing magnesium. CONSTITUTION: Thermal plasma jet is generated using mixed gas. Magnesium ingot(3) is molten and vaporized using the generated thermal plasma jet. Ammonia gas is injected to the vaporized magnesium, and a reaction is generated. Magnesium nitride nanopowder is collected using a double pipe quenching system. Thermal plasma generating gas is the mixed gas of argon and nitrogen. The nitrogen flux of the thermal plasma generating gas is 3-7% of the entire thermal plasma generating gas. The sizes of the magnesium nitride nanopowder are in a range between 30 and 300nm.
