[Also in Divisions C1 and C2] Preservatives for perishable materials such as vegetables, fruits, wine, ale, beer and pharmaceutical products comprise compounds of the general formula where R 1 and R 2 are substituted or unsubstituted alkyl, cycloalkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkenyl, alkynyl, cycloalkynyl, aryl or mixed alkyl-aryl radicals having from 1 to 24 carbon atoms. Examples describe the treatment of contaminated fruit juice and beer using oxalic bis (ethyl carbonic anhydride) and the corresponding n-propyl and n-pentyl compounds.</p> |
