The device has a clockwork mechanism (13) i.e. gas spring, connected with a bonnet (2) and a body (1) of a motor car through a lock (5) to support tilting of the bonnet from a closed position to an open position. An actuator (27) i.e. pyrotechnic unit, actuates a lifting and displacing unit (18) during crash on a front side (4) of the bonnet, and is temporarily displaced in a force-free manner after being triggered. The mechanism is compressed toward the lock while lifting and displacing the bonnet in a region of a windscreen (3) from a rest position by exerting restoring force on the bonnet.
