A four-way pipe junction (Fig. 1) has the limbs 2 thereof provided with integral casings 15 for receiving valve gates 8 when the latter are raised to open positions by means of non- rising threaded stems 13 journalled in a common cover 14. The gates are enclosed by a resilient sealing material 11, 12 and have flanges 9 which seat at the mouths of casings 15. One or two of the gates can be omitted and the corresponding limb can optionally be blanked off. The gates can be rectangular in section, elliptical or, as shown in Fig. 6, they can have a single curved surface 8<11> corresponding to the curvature of seats 19. Three-way junctions can also be fitted with two or three gates in the manner indicated above. The gates and bores are shaped as indicated at 4, 5, 6 in Fig. 1. |
