PURPOSE: An apparatus for measuring the strip speed on a rolling stand is provided to prevent a failure resulting from the strip speed difference between rolling stands by controlling the strip speed for each rolling stand in real time. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for measuring the strip speed on a rolling stand comprises an iron core(1), a primary coil(2), a secondary coil(3), a reference current application unit(4), and an induction current measuring unit(5). The primary coil maintains a gap from a strip(8) and is wound in a side of the iron core. The secondary coil is wound in the other side of the iron core. The primary coil and the secondary coil are arranged in the perpendicular direction to the strip transfer direction. The reference current application unit applies reference current to the primary coil. The induction current measuring unit measures the current which is induced in the secondary coil as the strip moves through a hollow portion formed in the induction current generating unit.
