[Problem] To facilitate, even when the boundary line between the tissue and another tissue is displayed as a double line in the photoacoustic imaging of a relatively large tissue, the recognition of the region from one of the double lines to the other as a single tissue. [Solution] The photoacoustic imaging apparatus (10) is provided with an extracting unit (58) that extracts peak position data and sign data, which represents whether the peak is positive or negative, from each of the plurality of peaks in the electrical signal that is the converted photoacoustic wave. When the sign data of two adjacent peaks among the multiple peaks are in the order of positive then negative in the time sequence, an image-generating unit (2) adjusts the color of the image region corresponding to the signal region between the two peaks on the basis of the respective position data of the two peaks to facilitate recognition of the two peaks and the signal region therebetween to be a single tissue. |
