A pneumatic tire comprising at least one heat and flame resistant non-structural barrier layer of polymeric yarns, the barrier layer being positioned outward of the tire carcass cords in the crown and sidewall sections of the tire wherein the barrier layer extends from a point above the bead of the tire but below the flange of the outward rim of the wheel across the crown to the corresponding point on the inward rim of the wheel, wherein the barrier layer also extends in a circumferential direction around the tire and comprises yarns of aromatic polyamide, flame retardant nylon, flame retardant polyester or mixtures thereof. |
