A ship is provided with derricks 8 and crane crabs 13 for loading and unloading through coamings 2, 3. The crabs 13 run on athwartship tracks 13, which extend beyond the ship's side and in a fixed position at the end of the hatch so that the remainder of the hatch can be worked by the derricks 8. To prevent rain entering the hatches when the lifting platform s 14 are in use the remainder of the hatch covers 16 are left in place and in addition to the covering by the fixed structure 10 temporary bulkheads such as canvases 15 may be provided. |
